Some reasons for a Reborn-Baby

Sometimes people asked me, why are these Reborn-dolls so expensive...

Well, every Reborn-baby doll is unique and I see them truly as a one-of-a-kind work of art. There are two artists involved in the process of creating a life-like doll. First it is sculpted by the hands and through the imagination of a talented sculptor – it all starts with a pile of clay. After this step the unpainted vinyl head, arms and legs can be purchased by the Reborn Artists (Price for the plain vinyl parts from around 120 US dollars) plus tax, shipping and custom-duty.

I only order original kits from well known companies to make sure that my clients receive authentic sculpts.

So, here we go I purchase the doll-kit, the body, the eyes (if applicable), high-quality mohair, non-toxic glue, all sorts of brushes and sponges, , thinners, varnishes, glazes, and of course the specific high quality paint, and the glass beads for weighting as well as the poly-fill for completing the body, the rooting tools + different needles for various techniques. One of the longest processes is rooting the hair.

Every hair is placed into the head by poking them one-by-one into the vinyl with a very fine needle (mono-or micro-rooting technique).

Once I finished my real-life baby-doll I will purchase diapers, a receiving-blanket, and two outfits. Extra expenses are things such as the magnetic pacifier, printing the care-instructions and a birth certificate, shipping boxes and bubble-wrap.

I require on average a month to reborn one single sculpt from start to finish.

Each baby-doll is a labour of love and a work of art and the end result is a one-of-a-kind beautiful, realistic reborned baby-doll, which resemble a human infant with as much realism as possible.

From that you can see why reborn-dolls are more expensive then the dolls you might find on store shelves.

They are realistic looking, individually hand crafted dolls and they are used for many therapeutic purposes, including hospitals, nursing homes, and for those suffering with Alzheimer’s. They are also used by some people experiencing infertility, miscarriage, empty nest syndrome, or the loss of an infant; they can be highly comforting and helpful in dealing with grief and recovery. They are also loved by collectors and people who simply love to cuddle babies! They are made to be weighted to feel like you are holding a real newborn baby.
